BRITISH COLUMBIA JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED
OTTAWA, December 16, 2011 – The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:
The Honourable Robert W. Jenkins, a lawyer with the firm Jenkins Marzban Logan in Vancouver, is appointed a judge of the Supreme Court of British Columbia in Vancouver, to replace Mr. Justice A.F. Cullen, who was appointed Associate Chief Justice, effective December 31, 2011.
Mr. Justice Jenkins received a Bachelor of Commerce in 1971 and a Bachelor of Laws in 1972, both from the University of British Columbia. He was admitted to the Bar of British Columbia in 1973, and appointed Queen's Counsel in 2001.
Mr. Justice Jenkins had been with Jenkins Marzban Logan since 1994. Prior to that, he practiced with Russell & Dumoulin (now Fasken Martineau) from 1986 to 1994; with Campney Murphy from 1983 to 1985; and with Buell Ellis from 1972 to 1983. He was selected by Lexpert in 2001 - 2010 as one of the Leading 500 Lawyers in Canada. His main areas of practise were construction law, alternative dispute resolution, and commercial litigation.
Mr. Justice Jenkins has been a Fellow of the Canadian College of Construction Lawyers since 1998. He was a member of several committees of the Canadian Bar Association. He is a certified arbitrator and mediator with the American Arbitration Association. He has been coordinator and lecturer for the Law Society of British Columbia's Bar Admission Program and co-authored course materials. He was a member of numerous associations and a frequent lecturer, and has authored several published articles and papers.
This appointment will be effective on December 31, 2011.
