FEDERAL COURT JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED

OTTAWA, June 1, 2012 – The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:

The Honourable Jocelyne Gagné, a lawyer with Lavery, de Billy in Montréal, is appointed a Judge of the Federal Court, to replace Madam Justice J. Gauthier, who was appointed to the Federal Court of Appeal on October 20, 2011.

Madam Justice Gagné received a Bachelor of Laws from the Université de Montréal in 1989 and was admitted to the Barreau du Québec in 1990.

Madam Justice Gagné has been an associate with Lavery, de Billy since 2007. Prior to that, she practised with Desjardins Ducharme. Her main areas of practice were civil and commercial litigation in diverse areas of the law, including intellectual property.

Madam Justice Gagné had been an executive member of the Canadian Bar Association – Business Section since 2007 and was president of the Commercial Litigation Committee from 2009 to 2011. She has been a speaker at numerous conferences and involved with several charitable organizations.

This appointment is effective immediately.
