SASKATCHEWAN JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED
OTTAWA, June 22, 2012 — The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:
The Honourable F. Neil Turcotte, a lawyer with MacPherson Leslie & Tyerman LLP is appointed a judge of the Family Division, Court of Queen's Bench in Saskatoon, to replace Mr. Justice R.S. Smith, who was transferred to the General Division as of June 19, 2012.
Mr. Justice Turcotte received a Bachelor of Arts in 1984 and a Juris Doctor in 1989 from the College of Law at the University of Saskatchewan. He was admitted to the Bar of Saskatchewan in 1990.
Mr. Justice Turcotte has been a lawyer with MacPherson Leslie & Tyerman LLP since 1999 and partner since 2001. He was a partner with the firm Cuelenaere Kendall Katzman & Watson from 1990 to 1999. His main areas of practice were wills, estates and civil litigation with a recognized expertise in family law.
Mr. Justice Turcotte was a member of the Canadian Bar Association and chair of the French Juristes section in Saskatchewan. Since 1996, he has been the coach of the Laskin Moot Team for the College of Law at the University of Saskatchewan and also member and past board member of the Saskatchewan Trial Lawyers Association. He has been a member, board member and past president of l'Association des juristes d'expression française since 1990 and a member of the Panel of Experts of the Federal Language Rights Support since 2009. He has been a volunteer in the community and a coach for children's baseball since 2003.
This appointment is effective immediately.
