SASKATCHEWAN JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED

OTTAWA, October 5, 2012 — The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:

The Honourable Lana L. Krogan-Stevely, a lawyer with the Saskatchewan Ministry of Justice in Regina, is appointed a Judge of Her Majesty’s Court of Queen’s Bench for Saskatchewan, to replace Mr. Justice T.C. Zarzeczny, who elected to become a supernumerary judge as of September 1, 2012.

Madam Justice Krogan-Stevely received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Regina in 1990 and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Saskatchewan in 1993. She was admitted to the Bar of Saskatchewan in 1994.

Madam Justice Krogan-Stevely has been with the Saskatchewan Ministry of Justice since 2003 and has held various positions, including her most recent position as Executive Director of Court Services. She was seconded to the Saskatchewan Police College from 2009 to 2012. She was a lawyer with MacPherson Leslie & Tyerman LLP from 2002 to 2003. Her main area of practice was criminal law.

Madam Justice Krogan-Stevely was a senate member of the University of Regina from 2006 to 2010 and a Bencher for the Law Society of Saskatchewan from 2000 to 2006. She was Chair and Board Member of the Regina Region RCMP Victim Services Program from 2003 to 2006, the Regina Food Bank from 2003 to 2008, and a member of the Saskatchewan First Nations Awards Ceremony Committee from 2000 to 2006. She was a lecturer at numerous conferences for the Canadian Police College, the University of Saskatchewan College of Law and the RCMP Cadet Training Program from 1997 to 2010.

This appointment is effective immediately.
