QUEBEC JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED

OTTAWA, October 5, 2012 – The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointments:

The Honourable Lise Bergeron, a lawyer with the firm Stein Monast in Québec, is appointed a puisne judge of the Superior Court of Quebec, District of Québec, to replace Mr. Justice G. Blanchet, who elected to become a supernumerary judge as of June 1, 2012.

Madam Justice Bergeron received a Bachelor of Laws from Université Laval in 1986 and was admitted to the Barreau du Québec in 1987.

Madam Justice Bergeron has been an associate with Stein Monast since 2007. She was with Desjardins Ducharme s.e.n.c.r.l. (previously known as Desjardins, Ducharme, Stein, Monast s.e.n.c.r.l.) from 2003 to 2007 and prior to that was an associate with Huot Laflamme (previously known as Marquis Huot) from 1987 to 2003. Her main areas of practice were property law and all aspects of municipal law, including construction law.

Madam Justice Bergeron was a member of the Canadian Bar Association. She was Bâtonnière of the Barreau du Québec from 2009 to 2010 and President of the Chamber of Commerce for the region of Sainte-Foy from 1998 to 1999. She was a board member of the Société du centre des congrès de Québec and the Institute of Urban Development of Québec. She is the author of numerous published articles and was active in many community organizations.

The Honourable Christian J. Brossard, a lawyer with BDBL Avocats Inc. in Montréal, is appointed a puisne judge of the Superior Court of Quebec, District of Montréal, to replace Mr. Justice W.C. Décarie, who elected to become a supernumerary judge as of June 27, 2012.

Mr. Justice Brossard received a Bachelor of Laws from the Université de Montréal in 1986 and was admitted to the Barreau du Québec in 1987.

Mr. Justice Brossard joined BDBL Avocats Inc. on September 1, 2012. Prior to that, he was a partner with Miller Thomson Pouliot in Montréal from 2010 to 2012 and with Fraser Milner Casgrain (previously Byers Casgrain) from 1987 to 2010. His main area of practice was construction law, civil litigation and commercial law.

Mr. Justice Brossard was a member of the Canadian Bar Association and has been President of the Montréal Bar Association’s Liaison Committee with the Superior Court of Quebec, Civil Division since 2011. He has been a teacher at the Université de Québec à Montréal since 2007 and a guest lecturer at the annual conference of the Barreau du Québec since 2005. He is a past board member of many community organizations.

The Honourable France Dulude, a lawyer with the firm Robinson Sheppard Shapiro in Montréal, is appointed a puisne judge of the Superior Court of Quebec, district of Longueuil, to replace Mr. Justice J.-G. Dubois, who elected to become a supernumerary judge as of September 1, 2012.

Madam Justice Dulude received a Bachelor of Civil Law from the Université de Montréal in 1980 and was admitted to the Barreau du Québec in 1990.

Madam Justice Dulude has been a lawyer with Robinson Sheppard Shapiro since 2000. She was previously with the firms Leduc Leblanc from 1994 to 2000, Mongeau Gouin from 1993 to 1994, Lalance Provencher from 1991 to 1993, and Pépin Létourneau from 1990 to 1991. Her main areas of practice were civil litigation and insurance law.

Madam Justice Dulude was a member of the Canadian Bar Association, Quebec Division, in various positions since 2001 and a member of the Insurance Women Association. She is an accredited trainer by the Damage-Insurance Chamber, and has been a frequent lecturer. She is listed in the 2013 Best Lawyers International in Insurance Law, and she has been a volunteer and fundraiser in many competitive sports organizations.

This appointment is effective immediately.
