Manitoba Judicial Appointment Announced
OTTAWA, November 2, 2012 - The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:
The Honourable Diana M. Cameron, a judge of Her Majesty's Court of Queen's Bench in Winnipeg, is appointed a judge of the Court of Appeal for Manitoba, to replace Mr. Justice M. Freedman, who retired on September 12, 2012.
Madam Justice Cameron received a Bachelor of Arts (with distinction) in 1985 and a Bachelor of Laws in 1988 from the University of Manitoba. She was admitted to the Bar of Manitoba in 1989.
Madam Justice Cameron was appointed a judge of Her Majesty's Court of Queen's Bench for Manitoba in 2011. Prior to her appointment, she had been Crown counsel with the Constitutional Law Branch of the Manitoba Department of Justice since 2004 and senior Crown attorney, Criminal Prosecutions from 1989 to 2004. Her main areas of practice were constitutional, Aboriginal, taxation and criminal law.
This appointment is effective immediately.
