Quebec Judicial Appointment Announced
OTTAWA, December 14, 2012 – The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:
The Honourable Hélène Di Salvo, a lawyer with the Office of the Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecutions of Quebec in Montréal, is appointed a Judge of the Superior Court of Quebec, to replace Madam Justice C. Picard (Montréal), who elected to become a supernumerary judge as of September 23, 2012.
Madam Justice Di Salvo received a Bachelor of Arts in 1985 from the Université de Montréal and a Bachelor of Laws in 1988. She was admitted to the Barreau du Québec in 1989.
Madam Justice Di Salvo has been a prosecutor with the Office of the Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecutions of Quebec since 2002, and was previously an assistant Crown attorney from 1990 to 2002. Her main area of practice was criminal law. She was also a member of the Provincial Paediatric Death Review Committee.
This appointment is effective immediately.
