BRITISH COLUMBIA JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED
OTTAWA, October 2, 2013 – The Honourable Peter MacKay, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Central Nova, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:
The Honourable Gary Weatherill, a lawyer with Nixon Wenger in Vernon, is appointed a judge of the Supreme Court of British Columbia (Vancouver), to replace Madam Justice M. Humphries, who elected to become a supernumerary judge as of September 14, 2012.
Mr. Justice Weatherill attended the University of British Columbia and obtained a Bachelor of Science in 1974 and a Bachelor of Laws in 1979. He was admitted to the Bar of British Columbia in 1980 and was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2008.
Mr. Justice Weatherill has practised with Nixon Wenger LLP since 1980. His main areas of practice are civil litigation and personal injury law. He has been a member of the Vernon Bar Association since 1980, the Trial Lawyers’ Association of British Columbia since 1987, and the Discipline Committee of the Law Society of British Columbia since 2011. He has also been a member of the board of directors and vice-president of Braintrust Canada since 2008, and was a member of the Kalamalka Rotary Club from 1984 to 1998.
This appointment is effective immediately.
