GOVERNMENT APPOINTS DEPUTY DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC PROSECUTIONS
OTTAWA, May 7, 2012 – The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the Government's appointment of George G. Dolhai for the position of Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions.
Mr. Dolhai has been Acting Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions since December 2006. He began his career with the Department of Justice Canada in 1992, after serving as a barrister and solicitor at McCarthy Tétrault from 1989 to 1991. Mr. Dolhai graduated from the University of Western Ontario Faculty of Law in 1987, he holds a master of laws from the University of Cambridge, and has been a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada since 1989.
The Public Prosecution Service of Canada was created in December 2006 as part of the Federal Accountability Act. The PPSC fulfills the responsibilities of the Attorney General of Canada in the discharge of his criminal law mandate by prosecuting criminal offences under federal jurisdiction.
