Amendments to Current Schedules to the Access to Information Regulations and Privacy Regulations (Investigate Bodies) – OIC (SOR)
Description of the objective:
This amendment is necessary to strengthen the capacity of federal departments and agencies to collect and share intelligence with other federal institutions and agencies, and to protect certain information in response to an access request presented under either Act.
This proposal would amend schedules to the Acts to reflect accurate names of investigative bodies that have gone through organizational changes.
Enabling authority:
- ss. 77(1)(f) of the Access to Information Act
- ss. 77(1)(d) of the Privacy Act
Indication of business impacts:
There are no expected business impacts.
Public consultation opportunities:
The main stakeholders, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner and the Office of the Information Commissioner, were consulted in writing on June 14, 2011, by the Department of Justice.
This was published in the Canada Gazette, Part I, on May 12, 2012, p. 1329 (http://www.gazette.gc.ca/rp-pr/p1/2012/2012-05-12/pdf/g1-14619.pdf), followed by a 30-day comments period.
These regulatory amendments were made on May 30, 2013. The results of the comments received were provided in the publication of the Regulatory Impact Analysis Statement in the Canada Gazette, Part II, on June 19, 2013. The final regulatory amendments also reflect administrative and legislative modifications to the names of certain bodies that have occurred since the pre-publication.
