The Canadian Genealogy Centre

The Canadian Genealogy Centre contains a wealth of information on our roots and the history of our families. Inaugurated in 2003 and implemented with the help of the Canadian Culture Online Program of the Department of Canadian Heritage, the Centre is an extraordinary gateway to the world of genealogy.

Whether you are an amateur or an expert, young or more senior, the Canadian Genealogy Centre has something for everyone. The Centre's How to section offers tips on how to gather information and on research methods, as well as guides and tools for genealogists of all levels. The Sources by Topic section describes the records most currently used and how to consult them. The Databases section features AVITUS, the Directory of Canadian Genealogical Resources, and several other research tools on various topics related to genealogy. Young and novice genealogy enthusiasts are always delighted to meet EuGENEus, a virtual character that guides them through interactive and educational learning activities.

The Canadian Genealogy Centre is constantly evolving and expanding. In spring 2005, two new databases were added to the site's content. The first –
Divorce in Canada (1841-1968)  – contains 12,732 references to acts published in official Government of Canada publications. The second – Upper and Lower Canada Marriage Bonds – contains 10,826 references to marriage bonds held at Library and Archives Canada. These two important additions will surely be in demand by Canadian genealogists.
