Sean Berrigan

Sean Berrigan was appointed Director General of the Strategic Office at Library and Archives Canada in November 2004. Strategic Office is responsible for policy development, corporate and strategic planning, Aboriginal and multicultural heritage projects and strategic transformation activities at LAC.

Prior to joining LAC, Mr. Berrigan occupied a number of positions in the Department of Canadian Heritage, serving as Director General of the following programs: Community Participation Initiatives; Planning and Regional Affairs; Intergovernmental Affairs; and Strategic Planning and Policy Coordination.

Mr. Berrigan began his career in the public service in 1980. He worked in the House of Commons and in the former Department of Communications, where he held responsibilities among others in policy development and planning, and in parliamentary and legislative affairs, and worked as chief of staff to the Deputy Minister.

Mr. Berrigan also serves as the LAC representative on the Audio-Visual Preservation Trust of Canada, the Canadian Broadcast Museum Foundation and the Canadian Council of Archives.

Mr. Berrigan holds a bachelor's degree (BA) in English Literature from Concordia University and a master's degree (MA) in Canadian Studies from Carleton University.
