that the last record in the National Library's DOBIS system was input on May 25, 1995? The record was created for a children's book, Mopi est invité à l'école, by Jean-Pierre Pille, and the staff member who did the job was Diane Belley of the Union Catalogue Division. The first online DOBIS records were created in 1979 by staff of the National Library's Union Catalogue of Serials as part of the DOBIS pilot project. Four years later, in January 1983, staff in the Union Catalogue of Books added the one millionth location to DOBIS. After more than 15 years of service, it is time to say hail and farewell to an old familiar friend, and hello and welcome to AMICUS!

that 50 universities now participate in the program of the Canadian Theses Service? And that the Service is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year?

The Canadian Theses Service began in 1965 with four participating universities, and now receives theses from most major Canadian universities. More than 140 000 theses representing over 80 percent of all masters and doctoral theses submitted to Canadian universities have been published.

The theses are microfilmed and sold by commercial vendors both in Canada and abroad. The microform copies also become part of the National Library's collection of Canadiana. Researchers can buy, borrow on interlibrary loan or consult a thesis at the National Library. Information on theses is available in Canadiana, the National Bibliography, Canadian Theses (Microfiche), DAI (Dissertation Abstracts International) and MAI (Master Abstracts International).

For more information about the Service, see "Making Canadian Theses Accessible and Available" by Patrice Landry, National Library News, vol. 27, no. 6, June 1995, pp. 17-18, or contact:

that October is "Women's History Month"? The Canadian federal government first celebrated "Women's History Month" in October 1992 to foster an appreciation for the past and present contributions of women in Canada and to recognize the achievements of women as vital to the national heritage. This year the theme is "Leaders, Scholars, Mentors: The History of Women and Education". Education is one of the critical areas of concern to be addressed at the Fourth United Nations World Conference on Women being held in China in September 1995.
