National Energy Board Mackenzie Gas Project hearing continues in Yellowknife

CALGARY - The National Energy Board (NEB) will hold an oral hearing in Yellowknife, NT, next week to continue its review of the proposed Mackenzie Gas Project.

"This session is a specific opportunity for parties in the NEB's hearing to test updated written evidence submitted since the NEB's scheduled hearing sessions ended in 2006," said Ken Vollman, Chair of the three-person NEB Panel reviewing the Mackenzie Gas Project.

The Yellowknife hearing is set for Wednesday, 10 October through Tuesday, 16 October 2007, as required. NEB hearings are open to the public to attend and observe. The hearing will be held at the Tree of Peace Friendship Centre, located at 5009, 51 Street, in Yellowknife, starting daily at 1:00 p.m.. A schedule of witnesses and sitting days will be updated daily and posted in the hearing room and on the NEB Internet site, www.neb-one.gc.ca. The public can listen to the hearing live on the NEB's Internet site or by phoning toll free 1-877-591-4957.

The NEB expects to conclude its oral hearing sessions when it considers Final Argument, which will take place after the Joint Review Panel releases its report and recommendations on the potential socio-economic

Its purpose is to promote safety and security, environmental protection, and efficient energy infrastructure and markets in the Canadian public interest, within the mandate set by Parliament in the regulation of pipelines, energy development and trade.
