CRMA Background
Created and funded by private radio broadcasters, the Canadian Radio Music Awards (CRMAs) were launched in 1998 to promote the careers of rising Canadian recording stars. The awards show takes place annually in Toronto in late February or early March, during Canadian Music Week (CMW).
Every year, during Canadian Radio Music Month (February) and leading up to the CRMAs, the Canadian Association of Broadcasters (CAB) encourages English-language private radio stations to designate free air-time to promote the CRMAs and the nominees. The CAB keeps track of stations’ contributions in order to promote radio’s efforts toward building a Canadian music star system to Ottawa decision-makers.
As part of the CAB’s efforts to build awareness about the CRMAs and radio’s contributions to the development of Canadian music, the CAB has created this “tip sheet” to assist you in promoting the CRMAs and the winners throughout the year.
The CAB also reminds radio stations to track your voluntary Canadian Talent Development initiatives and to promote them when you meet with the CRTC and at licence renewal. Don’t miss these opportunities to get the word out on the positive impact you have on the lives of Canada’s up-and-coming artists!
