CAB Executive receives Vision Award for outstanding HR leadership
Ottawa, May 19, 2000 The Canadian Association
of Broadcasters is pleased to announce that Tina Van Dusen, Executive
vice-president and COO, has received the Robertson-Surrette Vision Award
for her outstanding leadership in Human Resources initiatives at the CAB.
In a time of rapid changes in the industry, Ms. Van Dusen recognized
that human resources management had to be a central management concern.
She introduced a number of measures at the CAB that resulted in increased
employee morale and workplace performance and permitted employees to participate
in decisions affecting their work lives.
"This is a terrific honour", says Ms. Van Dusen. "I have
the privilege to work with talented, incredibly dedicated people who have
been integral to the development and implementation of the CABs
HR efforts and who are central to our ongoing success and effectiveness.
I am proud to share this award with them."
"Tina truly exemplifies all the hard work and commitment this award
represents," says Michael McCabe, president and CEO of the Canadian
Association of Broadcasters. "She came to our organization at a time
when exceptional changes in the industry and greatly increased membership
demands were putting extraordinary pressures on our staff. At that point
as well, the CAB had never developed an organized approach to human resources.
Tina has taught us that human resources management caring for and
nurturing our employees is absolutely central to our ongoing effectiveness."
Created by the Executive Search firm, Robertson-Surrette, and presented
in conjunction with the Ottawa Human Resources Professionals Association,
the Vision Awards recognize and celebrate outstanding contributions made
by professionals in the field of Human Resources. The second annual gala
event was held Wednesday night at the Canadian Museum of Civilization
with over 400 guests in attendance.
Six award categories acknowledging specific achievements in the field
of Human Resources were named in honor of private sector sponsors. The
Vision Awards 2000 nominees reflected a wide range of private and public
sector businesses and operations from high tech, to health care, government
to post secondary institution.
Ms. Van Dusen garnered the Robertson-Surrette Vision Award "for
the Executive Who Personifies Human Resources-Centred Leadership."
This award recognizes the non-HR professional who exemplifies the role
of HR Leader by demonstrating the highest level of professionalism combined
with outstanding communication and organizational skills.
"It was a privilege to participate in nominating Tina for this prestigious
award," comments James MacDonald, CAB immediate past chair of the
Board of Directors, and Senior vice-president and Chief Media Services
Officer, BCE Media. "Tina has initiated a number of innovative, forward-thinking
HR management programs at the CAB. Not only that, she has demonstrated
time and again that it is critical to be proactive, and to move swiftly
and determinedly to address human resources issues as they arise. She
is courageous, consistent and committed and, above all, always sensitive
to her team and what they need to succeed."
The CAB represents the vast majority of Canada's private radio, television
and specialty television broadcasters.
