Toronto , March 7, 2008 – State of Shock led a who’s who of Canada’s hottest rising radio music stars today as the group captured two prizes at the 11th Annual Canadian Radio Music Awards (CRMAs). The CRMAs take place each year during Canadian Music Week. Presented by the Canadian Association of Broadcasters (CAB), the CRMAs were handed out at a gala luncheon featuring performances by most of the nominated artists, at the Fairmont Royal York in Toronto. Performer Jully Black returned as event host. “It’s tremendously exciting to see the remarkable new talent that has emerged over the past year,” said Glenn O’Farrell, President and CEO of the CAB. “Canada’s private radio broadcasters congratulate this year’s CRMA winners and all the nominees on their achievements, and look forward to providing musical acts with continued support and encouragement.” “The performances here today prove that Canadian musicians are exciting, dynamic performers. Those of us in private radio will continue doing all we can to promote these rising stars,” added Rob Braide, Vice-President and General Manager of CJAD, CHOM-FM and MIX 96, Montreal, part of Astral Media Radio. “This entertainment and broadcasting event is a terrific opportunity to celebrate the strong, ongoing connection between Canadian music artists and Canadian private radio.” Here are the winners in the 2008 CRMA voting categories: State of Shock’s Money Honey scored in two categories, Best New Group or Solo Artist (Rock) of the Year, and Best New Group or Solo Artist (CHR) of the Year; Elise Estrada won for Best New Group or Solo Artist (Dance/Urban/Rhythmic) of the Year for Insatiable; Faber Drive’s Second Chance captured Best New Group (Hot A/C) of the Year; What You Want from Hayley Sales won Best New Group or Solo Artist (Mainstream A/C) of the Year; and, Jessie Farrell’s Let’s Talk About Love collected Best New Group or Solo Artist (Country) of the Year. Four additional awards rounded out today’s Awards: Finger Eleven collected the Fans’ Choice Award; Nelly Furtado received the Chart Topper Award; Alex J. Robinson captured the FACTOR Breakthrough Award for top airplay for a new, FACTOR-supported artist; and, internationally-acclaimed star Alanis Morissette received a Lifetime Achievement Award. Ms. Morissette is also to be inducted into the Canadian Music Industry Hall of Fame. CRMA nominees include artists who have hit the Canadian charts for the first time and who have achieved top airplay in different formats based on radio “spins” as recorded by Nielsen Broadcast Data Systems (BDS) in 2007. Votes cast by music directors, program directors and on-air personalities determine the winners.
