John Graves Simcoe -
Records in the collection document his service in the British army in North America and England, his
unofficial pursuits as a land-owner, and his five years as the first Lieutenant-Governor of Upper
Canada. Included are official correspondence and letterbooks, official orders and papers,
military appointments and personal papers.

Elizabeth Posthuma Simcoe -
Elizabeth Simcoe's activities are documented through a number of her personal
diaries and correspondence with relatives and friends. Mrs. Simcoe's skills as an artist
and draft person are well documented in 595 drawings and watercolours.

Francis Gwillim Simcoe -
Francis Simcoe, son of John Graves and Elizabeth Simcoe, was born in 1791 and accompanied his
parents to Upper Canada. He played an active role in the British army and was promoted to
Lieutenant in 1809. His military career was short lived, as he was fatally wounded in 1812. The
collection includes his journal and correspondence from 1809-1812 which documents his military
service.

Eliza Simcoe -
Daughter of John Graves and Elizabeth Simcoe, Eliza resided at Wolford Lodge, the family estate, and
took an active part in the promotion of the careers of other members of the family. She also
worked to preserve the papers of her parents and may have been responsible for the arrangement
of her mother's sketches into binders and scrap books. The collection includes her correspondence
to friends and relatives from 1830-1893. |
