Clifton School

In 1894, the first of the Clifton schools was built. It served pupils from a huge area and until 1906 was a term school - open only from April 1 until November.  On August 28, 1900, a cyclone took the school and left nothing but a few splintered boards. In 1900 and 1901 a new stone school was built on the old site. This school was used until 1914, when the stone school was abandoned and a new frame house was built in a more central location. The second school was used as a house until a brush fire consumed the contents and the roof later, but the stone frame is still standing.  The third school was abandoned and used as a storage bin.
