Broadview Post Office

The Canadian West, which was owned and controlled by the Hudson Bay Trading Company, depended on fur traders and voyagers in canoes to carry mail to far off trading posts.  The winter mail was transported using day teams and snow shoes.  This changed in the early 1880’s with the completion of the CPR.  The first post office in Broadview was a box placed near the railroad.  Every person had to go and select their own mail.  The original post office was established on February 1, 1882.  In 1902 a two story lumber house on Main Street and they moved the Post Office and remained until 1908.  In 1936 the Government built a one story Post Office.  This building was used until 1957 when the present Post Office opened.  The old Post Office is now being used for the Economic Development Office.
