Grenfell Murder

The only murder that ever occurred in Grenfell that was recorded occurred in the 1900’s.  One summer 3 strangers appeared in town—three musicians and a scissor grinder.  They went from house to house, the musicians playing a few tunes trying to get contributions (not very successfully) and the scissor grinder trying to sell his trade.

The strangers mysteriously left town in a hurry.  A few weeks later the section gang was working a couple of miles east of town when the noticed a swarm of flies hovering over a pile of railway ties.  An investigation uncovered the body of the scissor grinder buried in a shallow grave hidden by the ties.  He was murdered by the two musicians when he refused to divide the money he had gotten with them.  The two musicians were caught and punished.
