Farming Logging and the Sawmill Hydro and Highways |
Local businesses in Wharncliffe in the early 1900's were rare. The only store in the village was Osbornes', named "Osborne Brother's", and was not actually in Wharncliffe. It was located just before Goldenburg road, about two miles away, and was operated by Dave and Jonothan Osborne. It was later taken over by the Hicks'. The only other industry in the area was farming, in which nearly every family was involved. Farms did relatively well, although many men still had to work in the lumber camps in the winter. |
