Maudie and Lyn Forder, with their daughter Marian, moved from North Bay to the Mississagi River Valley area in 1931, and lived in Hooverville until they moved to Chub Lake in September, 1939. They made a simple little road to where they wanted to begin their camp, and they set up a tent until they got their first building built.

Lyn began right away to cut the logs, bringing them out of the bush on his own shoulders. While he was cutting, Marian and her mother would peel the logs. The lumber that Marian's father did not cut from the bush was bought from the Crane Mill in Thessalon. The company had gone bankrupt, and were selling clear pine for $10 per thousand board feet.

After 10 days, her mother and father had the first building ready. At first the Forders lived in that building, but then they built another house and the first building became a cabin. Eventually, 4 more cabins, a garage and a restaurant/store were built.

Marian's family bought their groceries and dried goods from Thessalon or Little Rapids. Lumber was bought from local mills, like Eddy Ansley's and the Crane Mill, and glass was bought from Burlington. Their paint came from North Bay, being shipped to Thessalon on the train.

Sometimes the camp was a lonely place. Someone always had to be left in charge, in case a customer came in off the road. But with the coming of the restaurant, store and gas pumps to Lyn's Camp in 1948, more people began to arrive.

Maudie Forder sold Lyn's Camp to Fred Knecht in 1969. Fred then sold the camp to Gene and Mary Ghering in 1970. They owned the camp until 1990, when they sold it to Mike Allen (the son of Marian Forder and grandson of Lyn and Maudie Forder), Gillian Lloyd and family. The camp now consists of 7 house-keeping cottages, 1 office, a house and other utility buildings.
