This is either a small tree or a shrub, which grows best in burnt or cleared areas. Its white flowers grow in bunches from March to July, and its tiny red fruit grow from July to September. The fruit are sour when eaten raw or made into jams and jellies, but grouse, bobwhites, deer, moose, beaver and others seem to enjoy the taste.
