St. Anthony’s Feast
By Tessa Derksen

St. Anthony’s Feast includes an outdoor mass held on the steps of St. Anthony’s Church.
Beginning in 1913, with a brief stoppage during the war years, the community has celebrated La Festa di San Antonio or St. Anthony’s Feast. This annual event occurs on the second Sunday in June and includes an outside mass on the steps of St. Anthony’s Church, a procession and a dinner served in the church.

St. Anthony’s Feast usually draws 10,000 people. But why is this event so popular?

“You have to think of it not in terms of an Italian-Catholic event or even a Catholic event,” explains Peter Scott, who has been with St. Anthony’s Church and involved with the event for the past 42 years. “St. Anthony has cross-religious, cross-cultural appeal. We have Sikhs, Muslims – people of every religion and culture – coming to this event.”
