Frank
Cauley
Frank
Cauley was born in Ottawa on July 21st, 1921, the son of a teacher/civil
servant. He was the only son (although he had three sisters), and enlisted
in the RCAF against his parents wishes. He chose the RCAF because he couldn’t
swim, and because he hated the vision of the trenches he’d seen in
WW I movies. He became a navigator on heavy bombers in 1942, and was the
only survivor of an airplane crash. He spent the better part of his second
tour flying coastal command on Sunderlands. After the war, he returned to
Ottawa and worked extensively in public service. He lives in Gloucester,
just outside of Ottawa, and continues his public service.
