Alex MacInnis
Alex MacInnis was born in Port Hawkesbury, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia in 1919. He was one of five brothers and a sister, all of whom served Canada's military in one capacity or another. Alex joined the army on September 7th, 1939, three days before Canada declared war. He went to join the Cape Breton Highlanders, but as the West Nova Scotia Regiment were short of men – and he was as eager as anyone to get overseas – he transferred to their ranks. He saw action as a D-Day Dodger through Sicily and Italy, where he was wounded. He later saw action in NW Europe, where he was wounded again, which brought him home to Canada in February 1945. He is widowed and live sin Sydney, Cape Breton.
