Charles
Scot-Brown was born on the 31st of August 1923, in Temiskaming, Quebec.
His father was a professional soldier in the Royal Canadian Engineers, and
Charles was the 7th generation of professional soldiers. He enlisted as
a cadet at age 16 with the 48th Highlanders, and eventually became a CanLoan
officer with the Gordon Highlanders and the 51st Highland Division. He landed
on D-Day with this regiment, and was later wounded in Normandy. He was reassigned
to the 1st British Para-Infantry, and was part of the Market Garden invasion
of Arnhem in September 1944. he served throughout the rest of the war in
NW Europe, being wounded three more times. He remained with the military
for the rest of his career, serving on many peacekeeping missions. He eventually
retired to Toronto where he now lives and is past-president of the Royal
Canadian Military Institute.
