George Vant Haaf
George Vant Haaf was born in South Africa in 1920. His father had been a sniper with the Boer Army during the Boer war. The family emigrated to Canada in the 1920's, and George enlisted in the navy. He served on a range of vessels during the war, and continued service into the Korean war. George, a career navy man, is now retired and living in Victoria.
