Nora
Cook
Nora
Cook was born on a farm in Upps Township, 5 miles from Lindsay, Ontario
in 1924. She was one of seven girls and one boy, but her father died when
she was four years old they had to manage everything themselves through
the depression years. When she was 18, she decided to go into nursing and
then joined the army shortly after graduating. She was shipped overseas
in November 1943 and worked endless hours in field hospitals in France,
Belgium and Germany. After the war, she joined the Victorian order of Nurses
and worked with them for the remainder of her career. She lives in North
York, and remains in close contact with many of her nursing sisters. However,
they never talk about the things they saw and had to deal with. As Nora
says, “You try to remember the
good times.”
