Bayefsky was born and grew up in Toronto. In 1942, he joined the
Royal Canadian Air Force and later became an official
war artist. Bayefsky is best known for his artistic documentation
of the Holocaust, but has also sketched market scenes in Toronto
and around the world. He continued painting until his death in
May 2001 at the age of 78.
