The Alpine Subregion
The Alpine Subregion includes all areas above
the treeline including vegetated areas, rockland, snowfield and glaciers. Materials are generally residual
bedrock and colluvium often on steep slopes. Extensive areas of unvegetated bedrock occur. Rock
glaciers occur from Kananaskis Country north to
Jasper National
Park. Neoglacial landforms are especially prevalent in the Main Ranges of
Banff and Jasper
National Parks.
