The Athabasca Plain Wildlife
Little is known of the animals of the Athabasca Plain Subregion, however there are similarities to both the
Kazan Upland Subregion and, in jack pine forest and
peatland habitats, to the adjacent Central Mixedwood Subregion. Sandhill cranes are notable breeding species here. As well, arctic and Caspian terns are subarctic species that have nested in the Subregion.
