A geologic timeline is a graphic map of the history of evolution. History is divided into 4 major categories; the formation of the earth, the paleozoic, mesozoic and cenozoic eras. These are referred to as eras. Each era consists of hundreds of millions of years, so they too are broken down into different time periods. Each time period is broken up into a smaller section of time, referred to as an epoch.
The timeline outlines the different lifeforms and the climate during each epoch or era. It will help you to understand how the ancient seas of Manitoba fit into the story of Earth. To use our interactive geologic timeline, click on the link below. From there you can click on the era that you would like to see. A chart will come on the screen displaying the different time periods and epochs. Double-click on the small boxes in the right hand corners of the text to view more information about the life forms, climate and creatures that lived during these times.
