Life Cycle Events

A common factor amongst all religions is the importance placed on life cycle events. An integral part of Jewish life is the celebration of these events. Specifically events which involve rituals, customs and traditions that have been passed down through the generations. This section of Judaic Art in Context is designed to provide insight into the most symbolic and celebrated events of Jewish Life.

From circumcision and naming (the first ritual event after birth) to death and funerals, information on its history, purpose and familial traditions are provided. Moreover, images of the art associated with these events are available so as to help one understand the contextual application of these liturgical objects.

In using Life Cycle Events, one can choose the event of interest and learn about what a Jewish person might experience in a ritual context. Moreover, Life Cycle Events can serve as a starting point for further exploration into how the art from the museum applies to the life one lives.
