David Boulanger  
"Art has life. It has a meaning, a purpose"
   


David is an Ojibwe / Cree and lives in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He started drawing in elementary school. He created his work on water colors and acrylic. David expresses traditional spirituality through art and shows that connection through the eagle, buffalo and bear.

He displayed prodigious artistic capabilities at a very young age. David is an artist, who is very in touch with his ancestral heritage and traditional culture.

David is an accomplished traditional dancer. He is currently enrolled in the Arts program at the University of Manitoba, and he plans to open an art gallery where he hopes to work with all the artists on a personal level.

Mikizi (Thunder)

This piece was created in honour of my baby brother Mikizi Wanakat (Thunder Cloud). I can remember hearing my mother say to me, when he was born, that his eyes were the ones that held knowledge and strength. Here I attempted to capture this serenity.

Dreamcatcher/Shield

The four arrows in this creative piece of artwork are representations of my peoples prayers, which journey on to the Creator. The eagle and its' feathers are shown to suggest that the Eagle contributes to the prayers journey by carrying them.

Eagle Clan people are known to be the Spiritual Leaders of my Nation, and the Spiral pipe stem, represents the umbilical cord that ties my people to our way of life. This man prays for his people, in thanks for the good life that they've been given.
