Survey Work: In addition to these large-scale excavations, the BTHC has been conducting an ongoing program of archaeological survey work aimed at locating and compiling an inventory of archaeological sites in the region. To date this work has uncovered both a Dorset Eskimo site and an 18th century European site at New Harbour and a 17th / 18th century site a New Perlican. The New Perlican site may be the Hefford Plantation which is first mentioned in the Newfoundland census of 1675. Future survey work is planned for a number of other locations in the region including Hants Harbour, Winterton, Old Perlican, Bay de Verde, Carbonear and Harbour Grace
