John Hartman was born in Midland, Ontario, 1950. He received his Bachelor of Arts from McMaster University in Hamilton in 1973 and was instructor of painting at Georgian College in Barrie. He has held many solo exhibitions in Ontario, including The Big Picture in 1991 at Mira Godard Gallery in Toronto, The Glass Paintings of John Hartman at the London Regional Art and Historic Museum in London, Ontario in 1992, and University Art Gallery in Hamilton in 1995-96, and abroad. Among his public commissions are the Canadian High Commission Chancery in Dar Es, Salaam, Tanzania (1990-91), and the Whitby Psychiatric Hospital in Whitby, Ontario (1995-96). John Hartman currently lives and works in Penetanguishene, Ontario.
