Peakes Bombers
Peakes Bombers Ball Field
The Peakes Bombers were one of the original teams in the KCBL. With such players as Fiddler MacDonald and George Smith, Peakes quickly became league powerhouses. The intense rivalry between Peakes and Morell is legendary, and was the catalyst for many great games. When the KCBL folded in 1966, the Bombers joined the Island Baseball League and enjoyed more success.
In 1991, the KCBL was reformed and the Bombers were quick to sign up. Ed Smith coached the team in '92 and by Louis Murphy in '93. In 1995, Ian MacDonald scouted players from outside the area to start a new generation of players to bring glory back to the Bombers name. These included: Jeremy MacDonald, Matthew MacDonald, Darren Mitchell, Grant MacEwen, Dwayne Coffin, Keir Anderson, Adam MacSwain, John Paquet, Ryan Paquet, Bob Harris, Mark Matheson, Liam Breedon, Neil Morrison, Scott Morrison, Colin Myers, Dwane Smith, Scott Power, Trevor McAree, Deon Rogerson, Darren Gallant and Josh Coffin.
In 1998, the Pisquid Phillies (Vipers) folded and four of their players joined the Bombers. This provided the final piece of the puzzle, as the Bombers had their best showing since the league reformed. The season came to an end with an exciting play-off game where Peakes beat Cardigan for the KCBL title.
The Peakes Bombers continue to enjoy success. They provide their fans with exciting baseball, continue long-standing rivalries, and ensure that the baseball tradition in Peakes will never fade.
