Special Characteristics:
These grasshoppers have the pronotum extended backwards over the abdomen forming a long narrow projection. They are dull brown or gray. The wings are hidden under the pronotum but are absent in some species.

Comments: This species is found in meadows or bogs, often in forested regions, in fallen leaves, mosses and under birch and willow trees. It is also found in swamps and along stream margins.
