In 1988 the estate of donated
an extensive collection of slides and photographs of Calgary's historic buildings and
residences to Calgary Public Library's Local History Collection.
The residences featured in Home Sweet Heritage Home have
been selected from this collection and were photographed by Ms. Jackson between 1957 and
1977 because of their association with famous or notable Calgarians. Although some of the
houses, constructed primarily between 1891 and 1952, have since been demolished, a number
of them are still used as private residences. Some of the homes, like Senator James
Lougheed's "Beaulieu" designated as a National Historic Site in 1995, have been
designated as historically significant at the municipal, provincial or national level.
Many are currently listed on the City of Calgary's Inventory of Potential Heritage Sites
because they are architecturally significant and/or are associated with notable
Calgarians.
Through these photographs and accompanying biographies,
Home Sweet Heritage Home explains how the contributions of these citizens shaped the
history and development of Calgary and the nation.
