Military Transports

After successes with their Beaver and Otter, which had gained a strong following with the U.S.Army, DHC was put to the task of designing and building larger, twin engined transports with similar capabilities: operation from unprepared fields using STOL capabilities to lift large loads. From these requirements, DHC developed the Caribou which later evolved into the Buffalo.

When the U.S. Army lost its authority to operate fixed-wing aircraft, there were no further sales to the U.S. government.

Despite this setback, Buffalos and Caribous are still in use today by military and civilian organizations worldwide.
