Canadair Four / CL-4 Argonaut

The Argonaut was built by Canadair as part of their DC-4 conversion program. Like the CL-2 North Star, it was designed as a transatlantic and domestic passenger plane, and the majority were sold to BOAC airlines. First flown in 1949, the "Canadair Four" as it was also known, had a heavier gross weight than the North Star, but had more engine power.

The BOAC fleet was delivered eight months ahead of schedule. Not only did Canadair deliver quickly, the Argonaut itself cut scheduled flight time on the London - Buenos Aires - Santiago trip by eighteen hours!
