Sabre  CL-13,   F-86

The F-86 Sabre jet program was Canadair's largest undertaking, as the leading NATO fighter of its time, over a thousand were built in four years, including six different "marks".

The Canadair version, which was built with extra powerful Orenda engines, used hydraulic flight control systems for smooth functioning. Supplied to airforces all over the world, pilots actually competed to fly the Canadian-built Sabre.

Female pilot Jacqueline Cochran set her first three international records in a Sabre, until she broke those in the Canadair Starfighter, which replaced the Sabres in RCAF service.

Two F-86 Sabres can be found in the National Aviation Museum collection.
