What are the plans for the future of the Canadian Forestry Association? The following lines were kindly written for us by the General Manager of the CFA, Dave Lemkay, describing the CFA's plans for the future.
CANADIAN FORESTRY ASSOCIATION - 100 YEARS OF SERVICE
The Canadian Forestry Association celebrated its centennial in fine fashion at the Forest Sustainability Beyond 2000 Conference in May, 2000 in Thunder Bay, Ontario. The objectives of Canada's oldest conservation organization reflect today what was established 100 years earlier in the Spring of 1900. The CFA was formed to advocate and encourage judicious methods in dealing with Canada's forest, water and wildlife resources, to educate and awaken public interest by collecting and disseminating forestry information and to promote tree planting. A century later, the CFA continues a long-standing program of outreach to Canadian schools, orchestrates programs like Envirothon and Logging for Wildlife and special events related to National Forest Week and Forest Capital of Canada campaigns. These programs are made possible through sponsorship from government and industry and partnership with provincial forestry associations and others who share the vision of healthy forests and a healthy attitude toward wise use of Canada's forest resources. The year 2000 is a signal year for the Canadian Forestry Association as it enters its second century. This archive marks the legacy of the first hundred years and an evolution from rail car classrooms in the early years, through hundreds of lectures and conferences and publications, to the marvel of today's Internet communication to spread the forestry message. The Canadian Forestry Association is changing with the times and plans to continue to deliver educational and awareness programs that celebrate the importance of Canada's forests and that are instrumental to individuals and organizations making informed decisions on the future use of Canada's forests.
