Elections have been covered by the CBC for many years. The way they are covered has changed drastically but in sixty years of coverage one thing hasn't changed, the need for the coverage of elections and referendums is as strong as ever. The CBC has gone from wire line, to microwaves, to satellites, but what is in store for the future?
The internet has revealed itself as an exciting new way to convey information around the world. People as far away as China were able to access the CBC's referendum site to receive up to the minute information on how the vote was going made possible with real time audio.
Broadcasting on the internet has introduced a whole new set of obstacles ranging from technical considerations to decisions on content. For example, because the referendum site was accessible to people world wide, the CBC could not depend solely on text to convey their message. As a result, the site had to rely upon strong visual elements to present the information accurately.
