QuickTime
On this site there are two things for you to download. There are pictures of compositions, and compressed pdf files. The pdf files contain music scores, information on the composers, and a midi file of the music. For information on how to use the midi fi les, see the QuickTime help section. There are two pdf files that you can download. One with a score (02.pdf), and another with information about the composer and composition (01.pdf). You can play the midi files from within both pdf files. The picture pages contain a picture of the composition, and a small amount of information about the composer.pdf - Portable Document Format. A file that can be used on a PC as well as Macintosh with Adobe Acrobat Reader.
How the pdf files work
When you decompress the pdf files you will see three or four buttons at the bottom of the page.
This button will take you from Adobe Acrobat Reader back to the Historical Anthology of Canadian Music home page.
If you click on this button you will be taken to the pdf file containing the score of the music, and the midi file. You will only see this button if you are in the pdf file containing the composer information.
Clicking on this button will play the midi file included with the pdf file. Remember you must have the Acrobat Movie Plug-in, and QuickTime installed to hear the piece of music.
This button will take you back to the pdf file containing information on the composition. You will only see this button if you are in the pdf file containing the score.
This symbol is a post-it note which helps you navigate through the score while listening to the midi file. You will find post-it notes at the bottom of some of the pages of music, as well as on the scores themselves.

QuickTime is a set of system extensions originally for the Macintosh. They let you play movies on your computer. We use QuickTime for this site because it can also play midi files without costly midi equipment.
