The half penny
This half penny was found in Inverness in 1986. It reveals the Scottish origins of the first settlers. We believe it was used as company money. Part of the employee's salary was paid in this money which could only be spent in the company's stores.

The half penny was made in 1796 and has the Scottish thistle on one side and the horn of plenty with the latin words "concordia et fidelitas" (understanding and faithfulness) inscribed on the other.
