It is a successful business that represents a wide cross section of local groups concerned with economic development. It's purpose is to manage and invest capital funds in a way that will bring social and economic benefit to local communities by raising money from both private and institutional investors with the aim of job creation and keeping businesses in the hands of local people. BCA is a company established in the cooperative tradition under the Companies Act of Nova Scotia and developed by the Tompkins Institute, and assists in any company which is deemed to be ethical, creating jobs and contributing to the long term social economic well-being of the area.
The first Venture that BCA Holdings undertook was "Tompkins Development Ltd."
With the support of Nova Scotia Credit Union Central, the Credit Union Museum was completed in 1993 and Tompkins Development is the owner of a new building, financed by BCA. With the help of BCA, Tompkins Development is now undertaking business projects in the area such as a community recreation center.
