Cosens, AubreyVictoria Cross Recipient |
Cosens, Aubrey (1921-1945). Born in Latchford, Ontario, Cosens was a member of the Queen's's Own Rifles of Canada during the Rhineland fighting. Sergeant Cosens was awarded the Victoria Cross for his role in capturing three farm buildings the enemy had converted into strong points. By directing a Sherman tank to crash through the wall of the main farm house, Cosens was able to enter the house and kill or wound the occupants. Single-handedly Cosens cleared the enemy from the remaining two buildings. While on his way to report his success to the company commander, the 23 year old soldier was shot through the head by a sniper. He died instantly. |
